Tree Change
Another presentation at the Woodland Festival 2019, was by TreeChange.ie.
After the festival I went to their web site that includes some very interesting hands on calculators.
Your Carbon Footprint
5.500kg of CO2 is the average created and put into the atmosphere by each household in Ireland, every year
Each household averages 20,000 km car travel a year
190 x 10 year old Alder trees would consume all of that CO2 created by home and car
95 x 10 year old Hazel trees would consume all of that CO2 created by home and car
Commercially growing either of the trees, or preferably mixing them up 50-50, needs an acre
But for personal use you could grow all of these Alders and Hazels within half acre or less.
I have not mentioned Oak, which most people regard as the best C02 absorbers
Oaks need to be spaced apart more and their leafing season is less than Alders and Hazels, so in a specific small area, Alder and Hazel trees seem to do the best CO2 consumption job/ Debate and correct me in the comment section below, if you wish.
